7 Reasons Why Having Your Own Blog Is Better Than A Website

by Alex

Having your own blog is essential if you’re wanting to get attention online.

Businesses have had websites for years but now, more individuals are hosting their own ‘websites’, by having a blog. There are more than 17 million registered blogs, and more popping up daily.

Here are 7 reasons why having your own blog is better than a website!

1.  Setting up your own blog is easier than setting up a website! You can install a WordPress blog in minutes. You don’t have to be too technically savvy to get this done. You don’t have to worry about coding, and the core files are there for you. You can find ‘done for you designs’ called themes. There are tons of free ones! The WordPress dashboard is very user friendly. All you need to do is log in, add your content. It’s very easy to manage your pages, categories, and comments. The blog platform does the technical work. You get to add your content and manage your site the way you want.

If all this still sounds a bit too technical there is a very simple plug ‘n’ play system that will have you up and running in less than 30 minutes and teach you how to monetize it immediately. Go here now to check it out.

2.  Reader interaction! When someone visits your own blog and has an opinion, they can share it through commenting. You’ll get to know frequent visitors, and respond to their comments. Those conversations can continue through comments or email. When you have comments on a particular topic, it makes other visitors stop to take notice of what’s going on at your blog! Encourage and welcome those comments! Click this link for FREE tips on how to make a successful blog.

3.  Having your own blog means the Search Engines will be more friendly than if you just had a website. When your own blog is updated, the search engine bots crawl your site to index your new content. With your own blog, you have the ability to optimize your blog content. When you link your pages to each other, you give the search engine bots more options to crawl. This is especially helpful when targeting a specific keyword. You can install a plugin called ‘All In One SEO Pack’ to help with optimization.

4.  Having your own blog will make you more popular on social media sites than if you just had a website. Because our sense of community has evolved with the internet, readers are more likely to share your best content on social media sites. Readers interact with bloggers. Bloggers also interact with other bloggers and syndicate (share) content they find valuable. It’s very easy to install various plugins that make it easy for your reader to share your content to their favorite social media site!

5.  Readers can subscribe to blogs via RSS feed. RSS stands for ‘Real Simple Syndication’. When a reader subscribes to your RSS feed, your content is delivered directly to their email. They are among the first to know when you have new content, and visit your site as a result. With a website, there is rarely new content and there is no reason for the visitor to visit the site regularly.

6.  Blogging helps with personal branding! When you have your own blog, you can shine in your niche by providing content relevant to your target audience. You will be viewed as an authority figure in your niche by the content and knowledge you provide.  The more questions you answer, the more you will brand yourself as a leader. Post content regularly and optimize them so that they are easily found by the search engines.

7.  You have complete control over your own blog. You control everything – the look, the content, the hosting, when it’s updated – EVERYTHING! You can update your own blog whenever you want. You can add or takeaway at will. With a website, you don’t have that kind of freedom.

Having your own blog offers incredible flexibility that a website does not. If you’re ready to own your own piece of internet real estate, contact me here and I’ll get you started.

Hi AnnMaria, Having both would be the perfect solution : ) However I believe for someone who is absolutely brand new to the online world, having a blog first may be the easier way to get started. Love your blog and website by the way ... incredible content. Alex

It isn't a choice between having a blog or a website. There is no reason you can't have both. I have a Wordpress blog on my site. Of course for many of the reasons you cite I do update my blog more frequently - and I am a programmer!

Hi Adam, Thanks for your great feedback and I'll incorporate your suggestion into my post. Thanks for spotting that. Yeah, free platforms do have their limitations that's for sure. BTW - We love your post on "How to Create a Twitter Explosion." Great read. Alex

Alex, I'm so glad you're teaching your tribe to own internet assets! It amazes me how many people want to build their blogs on free platforms. Little do they know. I enjoyed this statement of yours: "The more questions you answer, the more you will brand yourself as a leader. " You're doing a terrific job at this! I thought of a tiny suggestion- help your tribe know the difference between wordpress.com and wordpress.org. And, let them know yours is done in wordpress.org. Nice thesis theme too! ;) Thanks!
